Dirty Little Secret #16

I am a nerd.

Oh yes - I know my fictional audience finds this extremely hard to believe, but it's true. I am as nerdly as they come. Just yesterday, Amy called me to ask a question about the plot of Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith. What's scary is that she thought I would know the answer. What's scarier is that I did.

"K, what's a Sith?"

I happily commenced telling her all about the Sith, how Annakin Skywalker is mutilated before he assumes the Darth Vadar garb, and how the Chancellor is just like George Bush.

I may need help.

************

I'd like it noted that after I posted this, and my loving sister left her comments, she called to ask YET ANOTHER QUESTION regarding Star Wars III. In the future, before one goes prancing about, proclaiming one's superiority over one's Star-Wars-loving-younger sister, one should carefully examine that fact that two entire post-baby-bedtime evenings were spent watching Star Wars III. So there.

And Wookie and Heather, I am happy to see that you've got this bloggie's back.

Yeah. You were scarier than a Sith. I mean, dude, who needs to know that much about Star Wars? You reminded me of L., talking so fast you stumbled on your words and sounded out of breath.

It really was freakish. But I love you anyway.

I'm just not sure we should be seen together in public.

And it was Channing who was positive you would know what a Sith was. I believe he said:

"Call your sister. She'll know, she's such a nerd."

I felt like a nerd watching it, to be honest.

Oh, I've seen Star Wars Episode IV, V, VI several times. And we own them all (all 6 DVDs). I could probably answer most questions about the series as well.

I am also a nerd though.

But, I'm pretty sure no one has ever uttered the words "let's call Heather, she'll know!" (About Star Wars.)

Sorry!

(As you read this, imagine it being read to you in an incredibly nasal voice.)

Yes...ummm...but did you know that in Star Wars Episode IV "A New Hope" Luke Skywalker jumps out of his X-Wing fighter and yells Carrie instead of Leia? What a nerd! Also, did you know that George Lucas made the movies Howard the Duck and American Graffiti?

May the force be with you,

Kurt "The Wookie" Schroeder

In my defense I will point out that it was MY HUSBAND who wanted to A) watch the friggin' movie and B) forced me to call you with both questions because for some reason he forgets how to DIAL THE PHONE after 8:30 p.m.

I can't believe you called me out. Are we gonna throw down now? :)

But how can you stand the pain of Episodes I-III? The problem is that Darth Vader just wouldn't have been like that. His evil is controlled, contemptuous...cool. And Anakin is just this crazy, sulky kid who has no anger management skills. The kid Darth Vader used to be would be a good guy, but arrogant, someone whose rigid self-control gradually becomes a desire to dominate and control others.

(uh oh...my nerd roots are showing)

Thanks for stopping by my blog - I look forward to finding out your other 16 dirty secrets.

My favorite part of SW III is when Padme say, "So this is how we welocme in the fall of Democracy. With thunderous applause." I keep seeing Bush on that boat with all the troops around him with that fake mission accomplished sign in the background.

Right now there is a Star Wars exhibit at our local children's science museum, COSI. They're the first stop on a national tour, and the exhibit features lots of props from the movie, including full-sized speeder bikes, Vader's helmet, etc. It's a really awesome exhibit.

Oh, and we're big geeks too. My husband was overjoyed that they were releasing the original trilogy in its original form on DVD, until he found they were releasing it only in fullscreen, not widescreen. He's now furious.

It's okay. We're all nerds in one way or another...

I won't hold it against you with that whole Star Wars thing :)
